SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Conifex Timber has received approval from the B.C. government for its sale of Fort St. James saw mill and its forest license to Hampton Lumber. The sale approval was granted yesterday by the Honourable Doug Donaldson, Minister of Forests, lands, Natural Resource Operations, and Rural Development.
The sale transaction is expected to close at the earliest, subject to fulfilment of other pending customary closing conditions.
Ken Shields, Chairman and CEO, Conifex thanked the Minister and the Province of British Colombia for recognizing the positive benefits that the sale and the proposed rebuild of the sawmill will bring to its employees, the community and local First Nations.

Meantime, Steve Zika, CEO, Hampton Lumber noted that the company will work diligently with Conifex to complete the acquisition process. The short-terms plans with regards to managing the timber license and the mill site will be announced soon after the closing of the sale deal. The company’s long-term plan is to develop a community-based sawmill operation, Zika added.
