Commercial Metals Company to Build New State-of-the-Art Micro Mill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-headquartered Commercial Metals Company (CMC) announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art micro mill. The proposed mill will be geographically located to primarily serve the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Mid-Western United States markets. This is part of the next phase of the company’s long-term growth strategy.

According to company press release, it is currently in the process of selecting the site for the plant by exploring several options. The new plant will significantly augment the scale of operations in the Eastern U.S. region and complement its existing operational footprint. The proposed micro mill would be among the most environment friendly steelmaking operations in the world, it added.

The construction on the plant is subject to receipt of permitting and other necessary approvals as well as funding and is expected to take approximately two years.

Smith, President and Chief Executive Officer commented that it is an exciting new investment for CMC and its customers, fortifying its position in the large construction markets within the region. The completion of the project would make micro mills responsible for almost one-third of its total North American steel output. Furthermore, it promises improved service capabilities and logistical efficiencies.
