SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): As part of ongoing efforts to eliminate the use of virgin plastics in its products, Coca-Cola announced that it will soon roll out bottles made from 100% recycled plastics in the Netherlands and Norway.
Accordingly, Coca-Cola will transition to 100% recycled plastics in the Netherlands next month. As a result, the use of virgin oil-based plastics will be reduced by over 10,000 tonnes, thereby leading to 21% reduction in carbon emissions. Also, the company plans to switch to 100% rPET in Norway by early next year, thus leading to 28% reduction in carbon emissions associated with bottle production in the country.

Initially, smaller bottles used by Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite will be made using rPET. The larger bottles will switch to rPET in the next phase, the company said. Additionally, it announced that the rPET bottles used in both countries will be fully recyclable, making them eligible in used as raw materials for manufacturing new bottles.
Joe Franses, vice president for sustainability, Coca-Cola European Partners said that the switch to 100% rPET by Coca-Cola European Partners Netherlands and Coca-Cola European Partners Norway marks an important step forwards on its journey to eliminating use of virgin plastics across all its plastic bottles within a decade.
