SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Coca-Cola- the world’s beverages leader announced its decision to renew its partnership with social plastic forum Plastic Bank to collect ocean-bound plastic in 2022. The partnership is aimed at boosting the company’s efforts to achieve the ‘World Without Waste’ global pledge made by Coca-Cola in 2018.
Since the commencement of the partnership in September last year, a total of 102.60 metric tons of ocean-bound plastics have been collected. Also, the collected plastics have been treated responsibly through Plastic Bank’s partner network.
Tony Del Rosario, President, Coca-Cola Philippines noted that the efforts in partnership with Plastic Bank has not only contributed significantly in diverting plastic waste from oceans, but also delivered notable improvement in the welfare of individuals and communities involved in the waste value chain. Despite Covid-19-related challenges, the initiative managed to collect P5 million worth of plastic bottles, he added.
The company reiterated its commitment to work together with social enterprises like Plastic Bank towards establishment of sustaining ecosystems that would eliminate entry of plastic waste into oceans, thus helping global efforts to create a world without waste. The continuation of joint efforts for another year would save the environment and change the lives of communities, the company said.
