SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Irving, Texas-headquartered Commercial Metals Company (CMC) announced publication of its Sustainability Report for fiscal 2023. The report highlights the company’s leadership role in circular economy and its exemplary environmental performance.
During the fiscal year, CMC completed its inaugural Climate Risk Analysis (CRA), which identifies major climate-related risks and opportunities.

The company’s operations kept nearly 8.1 million metric tons of recycled metal away from landfills. It achieved 12% dip in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions intensity upon comparison with 2019 baseline. Also, CMC achieved 88% water recycling in addition to reporting 5.3% surge in waste recycling from 2021 levels.
According to the report, the company achieved record employee safety performance in 2023. As many as 114 of its facilities reported zero incident rate. Nearly half of its Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and 44% of its Board members are women. Also nearly 49% of its workforce comprises of female and non-white male. The community charity offerings by the company has witnessed significant surge by 285% since 2019.
Looking forward, the company will focus on safe operations while reducing its environmental footprint, by continuing to invest in people and communities.
