Charting the Course for Better Recycling

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): Recycling momentum is building across Michigan as local governments begin to update county materials management plans. Additionally, with funding for planning, innovation, and infrastructure development around recycling from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), opportunities to do more with waste are growing to support robust local economies that are making their waste work for them. Learn more about these public and private sector opportunities at the Michigan Recycling Coalition’s (MRC) annual conference as we work together to help build smarter, stronger systems for waste diversion.

Recycling, composting, and circular economy professionals from across the state will convene at the Muskegon Convention Center for the Annual Recycling and Organics Conference on May 13-15. “2024 will prove to be another year that Michigan’s recycling rate achieved record growth,” said Kerrin O’Brien, Executive Director of the MRC. “We are on pace to meet the state’s 30% recycling goal, and the MRC Conference is the best place to get connected to the people and organizations making it happen.”

Conference highlights include:

  •          Keynotes on Michigan’s recycling evolution and the challenges and promise of county planning.
  •          Practical sessions on glass recycling, food waste drop-off, social media outreach, labeling of compostable products, and construction debris reuse.
  •          Tours of Goodwill Muskegon, PADNOS, and the Kent County Recycling and Education Center.
  •          Networking events like the Grub Crawl, and the Emerging Professionals Reception.
  •          A showcase of NextCycle Michigan’s process and projects.

With hundreds of attendees expected, this is Michigan’s largest event focused on recycling and sustainable materials management. Join to learn more about the MRC’s work and their recycling education initiative, funded by the U.S. EPA, that will support public and private sector investments into the circular economy.
