Century Aluminum Signed MoU to Boost Secondary Billet Production

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Chicago, Illinois-based leading producer of bauxite, alumina and primary aluminum, Century Aluminum Company announced yesterday that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with MX Holdings to establish a joint venture that will mainly focus on the manufacture and marketing of low-carbon secondary billet. It will make technically advanced alloys with high recycled content by employing low-carbon processes.          

The joint venture is touted as the largest American-owned secondary billet supplier in the world. It expects to begin initial production by 2026 and later scale up the production to up to 250 million pounds per year. Several locations in the Ohio Valley region are being considered for setting up the facility.

Commenting on the development, Matt Rohm, CEO of MX Holdings said that the company is excited to embark on this new endeavour with Century. The billets produced by the joint venture will not only be of exceptional quality, but will enable its customers to achieve their sustainability objectives, he added.

The company is pleased to partner with MX Holdings, which will help it to better serve the automotive and general extrusion industries, said Matt Aboud, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Century Aluminum.
