According to company press release, the mills in the region are likely to operate at nearly 80% production capacity during this period. Also, the operating schedules may be further adjusted, in response to prevailing economic conditions. The cut in operating schedule will be extended until the time when there is a meaningful improvement in both demand as well as pricing.
Stephen Mackie, Executive Vice President, North America, Canfor noted that the decision to implement reduced operating schedules is mainly on account of existing challenging market conditions. The company is making all efforts to mitigate the impact of volatile lumber markets on its employees, contractors and the communities in which it operates. Canfor plans to leverage its global operating platform to minimize the supply disruptions to customers due to this decision, he added.
Earlier, the company had announced curtailment of production capacity at its Canadian sawmills during the third quarter of 2021.
