SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Canfor Corporation announced that it is pleased to invest around $210 million in building a new, state-of-the-art sawmill complex in southern Alabama. The facility is being designed in line with the company’s ambitious sustainability goals and decarbonization targets, the startup of which is anticipated in the third quarter of 2024.
The mill will employ industry-leading technologies and will have a production capacity of 250 million board feet per annum. It will offer direct employment to nearly 130 people, in addition to hundreds of indirect jobs. The facility will feature a biomass-fuelled lumber drying system.

The new facility will replace Canfor’s existing operation in the City of Mobile. It will undertake an orderly wind down of the Mobile operation, further to the completion of construction and startup of the new Alabama facility. All current employees will be given opportunity to remain with the company.

Furthermore, it will help Canfor to more closely align its production of high-quality products with market demand, he added.
