SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-based battery stewardship and recycling program Call2Recycle announced that it has successfully recycled 8.4 million pounds of batteries during the previous year. This is significantly higher by 11% when compared with 2019. The responsible battery recycling collection had totalled 7.5 million pounds in 2019. The rise in recycling volume comes amidst general perception that recycling levels could decline due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The news release from Call2Recycle noted that the rechargeable battery collections recorded a decline of 10% from 2019. The collections were primarily impacted by the pandemic restrictions including stay-at-homes. However, the total volume of collected batteries surpassed the record set in 2017.
