Brockville, ON and Call2Recycle Strengthen their Partnership to Make Battery Recycling More Convenient for Residents

SEATTLE (Waste Advantage): The City of Brockville announce that it is expanding its partnership with Call2Recycle, Canada’s leading battery collection and recycling organization, to launch a new phase in its waste management and sustainability strategy. Smart battery drop-off containers from Call2Recycle’s Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! program are now available at several convenient Brockville municipal sites, including City Hall, the Public Library, the Brockville Memorial Civic Centre, and Centennial Youth Arena, significantly enhancing the accessibility to battery recycling for Brockville residents.  Residents can drop off their used household batteries under 5 kg at any of these containers.

The first of their kind in North America, these next-generation smart containers drastically increase the safety of the battery collection process.  At the same time, their sensors monitor the battery drop-offs and automatically alert Call2Recycle to pick up the batteries once the containers are full, supporting the City’s waste diversion objectives while minimizing the associated carbon footprint.

The City of Brockville and Call2Recycle started collaborating in 2022 to set up regular collections of used batteries, helping the City collect over 2,300 kg of used batteries over the past three years. In 2024, the City increased its effort to encourage residents to dispose of their waste responsibly, following Recycle Your Batteries, Canada’s! guidelines to “Collect, Protect, Drop-off.” at least every three months. Through its responsible management of hazardous waste in multiple municipal sites, Brockville sets an example as a safe and environmentally responsible community in Ontario.
