BMI Group to Transform Former Quebec Paper Mill Property

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A former paper mill facility near Baaie-Comeau, Quebec, has been purchased by the BMI Group. To promote industrial development in the area, the 2,800-acre land will be developed into the Norderra Multimodal Industrial Hub. Additionally, it will be crucial in fortifying the nation's resource supply networks, according to a December 12, 2024, corporate news release.

The BMI Group will collaborate with the Port of Baie-Comeau to use the project to link the Atlantic gateway to BMI’s Bioveld Multimodal Enterprise Park at Niagara Ports. Furthermore, it will extend o BMI’s development of the northernmost port on Lake Superior in Red Rock, Ontario.

The initiative has already received support from the Port of Baie-Comeau. The Port of Baie-Comeau's CEO, Karine Otis, stated that the port's collaboration with the BMI Group on the Norderra project will strengthen Baie-Comeau's industrial foundation and expand its capabilities, making it a vital hub for future economic development in both Quebec and Canada.

A key role in Canada's Critical Mineral Corridor (CMC) is anticipated for the Norderra project, which is envisioned as a superior industrial platform.
