SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading steelmaker BlueScope Steel Limited announced publication of its 2021/22 Sustainability Report.
The FY2022 Sustainability Report by the company features its achievements during the year. The company’s sustainability efforts were recognized by the World Steel Association by naming it as a Sustainability Champion for 2022. In addition, the company’s HSE Evolution Program was named a joint winner of worldsteel’s Safety and Health Excellence Recognition in Leadership and Culture.

The Port Kembla Steelworks and associated sites in the Illawarra region of New South Wales received ResponsibleSteelTM certification. The company emerged as the first steelmaker in Asia Pacific region to receive the prestigious certification. BlueScope Steel also became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) during the year.
The company has played an active role in exploring emerging and breakthrough technologies with its key value chain, government and academic partners. It is currently researching low emission technologies by promoting use of green hydrogen. Also, it is exploring the establishment of a hydrogen hub in the Illawarra region.
BlueScope achieved significant progress in expanding footprints in the U.S., with the project to add 850,000 tonnes per annum of hot rolled coil production capacity to the North Star mini-mill in Delta nearing completion.
