Biewer Lumber Announced Construction of New Sawmill Facility

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): St.Claire, Michgan-headquartered Biewer Lumber announced its decision to expand footprints to Mississippi City. The company plans to build a new sawmill in Winoma. The new sawmill facility is expected to create nearly 150 new jobs in the region and is expected to become operational by January next year.

According to company press release, the mill will be constructed at an investment of $130 million. It will have capacity to produce approximately 350 million board feet of lumber per year.

Announcing the decision, Tim Biewer, President & CEO of Biewer Lumber said that the family’s passion for the lumber industry has prompted the expansion in the U.S. South. The fiber-rich state of Mississippi is the ideal pace to grow its business, he added.

Meantime, Gov. Tate Reeves noted that the growth of companies like Biewer Lumber in Mississippi demonstrates the business-supportive environment and availability of skilled workforce in the state. The construction and expansion of its Newton sawmill earlier too is a testament to this fact. That mill now employs 175 people and is capable of producing 350 million board feet of lumber per year.      

The family-owned business operates five sawmills-two in Michigan, two in Wisconsin and one in Newton, Mississippi.
