WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster): The Community Service Director of Mohave County, Susie Parel-Duranceau, stated that, the community will hold rapid response orientations, in order to help the workers look for other jobs and also identify unemployment and other benefits.
She also added that, in the last 16 years, this is the biggest lay offs that is happening on a company. Steve Lawson, the Human Resource Manager, stated that, the layoff of the workers will start within the next 8 weeks as the mine put a stop to the production and other operations in the area.
Lawson also added that, the company is looking for another way to accommodate the workers, he also stated that, the workers are good and hardworking people. According to the letter sent to the workers, the Mercator Mineral Park Holdings Ltd, a British Columbia based company located in Vancouver, has filled on the 25th of August in Delaware, for protection under the Chapter 11of the Bankruptcy Code, and also has been attempting to sell the mine, since then. In the letter to the workers it is clearly noted that, the a possible sale has been discussed.
Lawson stated that, even though the company wanted to notify the workers regarding the shut down a bit earlier, certain business circumstances didn’t help the company in doing so. The management has only recently realized that the sale of the mine will not result in the acquisition of the company.
The company plans to keep the mine in the care and maintenance mode, until the company finds the financial capacity to run it once again.
