SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Board of Directors of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced formal election of John Brett, president and CEO of ArcelorMittal USA, as its new Chairman for the 2020-2021 term. Brett has been serving as the interim chairman since March this year.
Thomas J. Gibson, president and CEO of AISI stated that under Brett’s leadership, the association will continue to see tremendous advocacy successes. Brett has 30 years of steel industry experience and has been a strong advocate for North American steel. Meantime, Brett said that he looks forward to work with the board colleagues in highlighting the sector’s priority issues and to continue to ensure that steel remains competitive.

Also, AISI announced election of Kevin Dempsey as its interim president and CEO. He will succeed Thomas J. Gibson, who will be retiring this week. Dempsey will assume the role with immediate effect. Meantime, Gibson will continue to serve as an advisor to AISI during the transition phase.
The Board thanked Gibson for the great accomplishments achieved on behalf of the industry. during his tenure.
The selection of Dempsey will ensure AISI continues its strong, successful and robust advocacy, especially during these critical times, said Gibson.
