SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading steelmaker ArcelorMittal was recognized by the environmental non-profit Climate Disclosure Project (CDP) for its strong action on climate change. This is in accordance with the results of 2020 CDP Climate Change Assessment published recently. It is the second time in a row that the company has been awarded A- rating.
The A- rating achieved by the company is a testament of its efforts and contributions, given the facts that the global average for metal smelting, refining and forming companies is D and that for the steel sector in particular is C. Incidentally, CDP scores thousands of companies which disclose climate data through its platform each year, aimed at bringing about positive change in corporate actions on climate change.
Brian Aranha, Executive Vice President and Head of Strategy, ArcelorMittal noted that receiving of A- rating from CDP for the second consecutive year is a testament to the significant efforts the company is making to lead the industry’s efforts to decarbonize the process of steelmaking.
ArcelorMittal has committed to become carbon-neutral by 2050. It aims to reduce carbon footprints by 30% in its European business by 2030.
