SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Renowned miner AngloGold Ashanti provided latest update on Argentina operations.
The company has decided to temporarily suspend its operations at its Cerro Vanguardia mine in the country for a period of 10 days. The decision follows detection of coronavirus cases among its workers.
The temporary stoppage is feared to impact the mine production by approximately 8,000 ounces.

The normal operations at the mine are expected to resume on 20th November, 2020, with only essential activities permitted during the period of temporary suspension. The movements to and from the site will be restricted, with entry allowed only for essential personnel, until the end of the month. The company has already engaged local health and labour authorities, who are expected to carry out a full sanitisation of the mine site. Meantime, the company noted that the balance of its mines elsewhere in the world will continue to operate as normal.
The company assured that it will closely monitor the situation and will continue to remain in close contact with authorities in each country where it operates.
AngloGold Ashanti owns 92.5% stake in Cerro Vanguardia mine, whereas the state-owned Fomicruz owns the remaining 7.5% stake. The gold and silver mine had produced 225,000 ounces in 2019.
