SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Packaging Recycling Organization (Alupro) launched a series of fact sheets that outline the benefits of aluminum packaging and highlight the circular properties of aluminum.
The fact sheets cover a wide range of topics including the recycling processes, collection rates, upcoming legislative changes and the carbon footprint of aluminium. They are considered as a valuable reference document for packaging professionals, retailers, manufacturers and the wider supply chain.

As per the fact sheet, 68% of all aluminum packaging sold in the UK was recycled in 2020. The rate is significantly higher, compared with 41% in 2010. Also, 82% of all aluminum drink cans sold in the UK were recycled during the previous year. The Europe region recycles nearly 90% of the aluminum packaging consumed in the UK. Furthermore, it highlights the fact that aluminum is easily and infinitely recyclable.
The UK local authorities collect aluminum for recycling. An Eddy Current Separator is used to separate aluminum from packaging made of other materials. The separated aluminum is sent to a recycling plant, where they are shredded into small pieces. The clean silvery material is furnace melted and cast into ingots, which are then transformed to sheets by rolling mills. These sheets are converted back into packaging products, Alupro noted.
