Aluminum Scrap Price Weekly Report- January 3, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly trend in aluminium scrap prices across worldwide aluminum scrap metal markets for the past one-week period (December 27, 2024 to January 2, 2025) on the Scrap Monster Price Index are provided below:

North America Prices

The regional aluminum scrap prices witnessed increase over the prior week. However, a few commodities held steady.

The prices of Mixed Aluminum Turnings, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, and 6061 Extrusions reported the largest increase on the Index.

Prices for Mixed Aluminum Turnings increased by 2.27% from the previous week. From $0.44 per pound at the beginning of the week, prices increased by $0.01 per pound to close at $0.45 per pound on the Index.

The chart below represents the price movement in Mixed Aluminum Turnings during the past week:

The price of 6063 Extrusions/Fe and 6061 Extrusions increased as well, by 1.56% and 1.49%, respectively.

The only aluminum scrap commodities to maintain previous week price levels were Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery.

USA East Coast Prices

The regional scrap aluminum prices mostly edged higher when compared with the prior week. The top three gainers were Mixed Aluminum Turnings, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, and 6061 Extrusions.

The prices of  6063 Extrusions, E.C. Aluminum Wire, Litho Sheets, Painted Siding, 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels (Clean), 5052 Scrap, Chrome Wheels, MLC Clips, Old Cast, Old Sheet, UBC, Zorba 90% NF, and Chrome Wheels also recorded increase over the previous week.

In the meantime, Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery prices held steady over the prior week.

USA Midwest Prices

The prices reported increase when compared with the week before.

The price of Mixed Aluminum Turnings increased 2.33% during the course of the week, from $0.43 per pound at the start of the week to $0.44 per pound at the close.

The prices of 6063 Extrusions/Fe increased by 1.59% on a weekly basis, from $0.63 per pound to $0.64 per pound in the week that ended on January 2, 2025. Below is the weekly price chart for the commodity:

6061 Extrusions prices were up by 1.52% on a weekly basis.

All other scrap categories saw price increases during the course of the week, with the exception of Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery.

USA West Coast Prices

The regional prices of all scrap aluminum categories, except a few, posted week-on-week jump.

Mixed Aluminum Turnings, 6063 Extrusions/Fe, and 6061 Extrusions recorded the highest jump in prices during the week.

The prices of Mixed Aluminum Turnings on the Index closed at $0.45 per pound, up $0.01 per pound. The commodity saw an increase of 2.27% in price week over week.

6063 Extrusions/Fe prices increased from $0.65 per Lb at the beginning of the week to close at $0.66 per Lb.

Prices for 6061 Extrusions increased by 1.49% from the previous week. The commodity's price increased from $0.67 per Lb to $0.68 per Lb over the previous week. The weekly price movement for 6061 Extrusions is seen in the chart below:

E.C. Aluminum Wire witnessed the least increase, with prices recording nominal week-on-week rise by 0.88%.

In the meantime, prices of Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery held steady upon comparison with the previous week’s price.

China Prices

The aluminum scrap commodities in the region reported marginal increase in prices during the week ending January 2, 2025.

Aluminum Transformers and Aluminum Radiators recorded biggest jump in prices.

The prices of Aluminum Transformers were up by 1.12% during the week. The below chart depicts the weekly price variation in the prices of the commodity.

Also Aluminum Radiators registered an increase of 1.06% week-on-week, ending at CNY 9,050 per MT on the Index.

UBC, Zorba 90% NF, 6063 Extrusions, E.C. Aluminum Wire, Old Cast, Old Sheet and Aluminum Ingots prices also registered marginal increases in prices when compared with the week before.

India Prices

The Aluminum utensil scrap prices were down by 4.12% week-on-week, closing at INR 233,000 per Ton on the ScrapMonster Index. The weekly price chart of Aluminum utensil scrap is provided below:  

The Aluminum ingots prices also witnessed a dip of 3.97% from the prior week’s prices.  

Europe Prices

The prices of all aluminium scrap categories (Aluminum Cuttings, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast and UBC) witnessed no change during the week.

LME Aluminum Market Update

The closing price of LME Aluminum 3-Month contract stood at USD 2,561.00 per tonne as of January 2, 2025. The LME Aluminum Cash Settlement contract recorded marginal increase from $2,516.50 a day before to $2,536.00 per tonne.

The LME Aluminum stocks declined modestly over the previous day to close at 634,650 tonnes as of January 2, 2025, as compared with 639,150 tonnes a day before.
