Aluminum Scrap Prices: Weekly Market Report- December 13, 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly trend in aluminium scrap prices across worldwide markets for the past one-week period (December 6 to December 12, 2024) on the Scrap Monster Price Index is provided below:

North America Prices

There was a general downward tendency in the prices. All scrap categories, except a few, recorded decline when compared with the previous week.

The largest price drop of the week was seen in Mixed Aluminum Turnings, which recorded a decrease from $0.45 per pound to $0.44 per pound. The commodity saw a 2.22% weekly price decrease. E.C. Aluminum Wire and 6063 Extrusions/Fe also reported modest decline in price over the previous week, falling by 1.71% and 1.54%, respectively.

Zorba 90% NF, 6063 Extrusions, Litho Sheets, Painted Siding, 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels (Clean), 5052 Scrap, 6061 Extrusions, Chrome Wheels, MLC Clips, Old Cast, Old Sheet and UBC prices also reported decline over the previous week.

In contrast, no change in price was seen in Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery.

USA East Coast Prices

Mixed Aluminum Turnings prices recorded biggest dip over the week, registering 2.22% decline from $0.45 per Lb to $0.44 per Lb. Also, modest weekly declines by 1.71% and 1.54% were seen in E.C. Aluminum Wire and 6063 Extrusions/Fe.

The rest of the scrap aluminium categories, except a few, recorded week-over-week decline.

The least declines were seen in 5052 Scrap and 6063 Extrusions.

In the meantime, prices of Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery held steady during the week ending December 12, 2024.

USA Midwest Prices

The aluminium scrap prices in the region mostly edged lower over the previous week. The top three losers were Mixed Aluminum Turnings, E.C. Aluminum Wire and 6063/Extrusions/Fe.

The Mixed Aluminum Turnings prices ended the week at $0.43 per Lb, down from the previous week’s price of $0.44 per Lb.

Also, the week witnessed dip in prices of E.C. Aluminum Wire and 6063/Extrusions/Fe to $1.15 per Lb and $0.63 per Lb respectively.

The other commodities to register week-on-week dip in prices were Zorba 90% NF, 6063 Extrusions, Litho Sheets, Painted Siding, 1100 Scrap, 3003 Scrap, 356 Aluminum Wheels (Clean), 5052 Scrap, 6061 Extrusions, Chrome Wheels, MLC Clips, Old Cast, Old Sheet and UBC. 

USA West Coast Prices

The prices of the region’s majority of scrap aluminum categories fell week over week.

The scrap categories to dip the most were Mixed Aluminum Turnings and E.C. Aluminum Wire, whose prices recorded declines by 2.22% and 1.71% respectively over the previous week. 6063/Extrusions/Fe prices recorded fall from $0.66 per Lb to $0.65 per Lb, registering a weekly decline of 1.52%.

The prices of Aluminum Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators, Al/Cu Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Radiators/Fe, Aluminum Transformers, and Breakage 50% Recovery witnessed no variation during the week

China Prices

The Chinese aluminum scrap prices exhibited mixed trend on the Index.

The scrap categories to record largest decline were Old Cast and Old Sheet. The prices of both these commodities registered week-on-week decline by 0.28%.

The Old Cast prices were down from CNY 18,000 per MT to CNY 17,950 per MT over the week. Please find below the weekly price chart of the commodity.

Also, the graph provided below represents the weekly price movement in Old Sheet scrap.

The prices of 6063 Extrusions, E.C. Aluminum Wire and Aluminum Ingots too were down on the Index.

In the meantime, the Aluminum Radiators, Aluminum Transformers, UBC ad Zorba 90% NF prices held steady over the previous week’s prices.

India Prices

The prices of scrap aluminum utensils saw significant surge during the week ending on December 12, 2024.

The prices of Aluminum utensil scrap were up by 6.81% week-on-week to end at INR 251,000 per Ton. The weekly price chart of the commodity is as follows:  

The prices of Aluminum ingots also registered increase by 6.56%, rising from INR 244,000 per Ton to INR 260,000 per Ton on the Index during the week.

Europe Prices

The prices of all aluminium scrap categories (Aluminum Cuttings, Mixed Aluminum Turnings, Old Cast and UBC) remained constant during the week.

LME Aluminum Market Update

The closing price of LME Aluminum 3-Month contract stood at USD 2,604.50 per tonne as of December 12, 2024. The LME Aluminum Cash Settlement contract inched lower from $2,556.00 a day before to $2,555.00 per tonne.

The LME Aluminum stocks declined marginally over the previous day to close at 675,100 tonnes on December 12, 2024, down slightly from 677,600 tonnes on December 11, 2024.
