SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association released a new report highlighting the sustainability benefits of aluminum. The ‘Choose Aluminum Campaign’ also provides the economic impacts of aluminum metal.
According to the report, aluminum is infinitely recyclable, with nearly three-fourths of aluminum ever produced still in use today. It is one of the most energy-efficient and sustainable building materials and also the fastest growing automotive material. In addition, it is the most widely used material in modern solar panels and consumer electronics. Also, aluminum beverage cans contain far more recycled content, compared with glass or plastic, the report noted.

As on date, the U.S. aluminum industry employs more than 166,000 workers directly. This is in addition to 494,000 workers indirectly supported by it. It generates $70 billion in direct economic benefits and an additional $102 million in indirect benefits. The industry has committed or invested $3 billion in domestic manufacturing since 2013.
The campaign comprises a toolkit, digital graphics as well as a library of videos that focus on the benefits of aluminum. It reminds us of the tremendous strides the U.S. aluminum industry has made in reducing its carbon footprint, noted Matt Meenan, Senior Director of External Affairs, the Aluminum Association.
