SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Austria-headquartered ALPLA announced major expansion to its rPET facility in Radomsko, Poland. The new extrusion system at the plant is expected to double its plastics recycling capacity.
The company had become a member of the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2018. The recent investment at Radomsko PET recycling facility is part of its commitment to invest $50 million, as part of signing the treaty. The plant’s production capacity will be doubled from 15,000 metric tons to nearly 30,000 metric tons, said Georg Lasser, Head of Recycling, ALPLA. In addition to investing in expansion of existing facilities, the company is also committed to build a new recycling plant in Thailand, he added.
The extrusion system, which takes post-consumer materials from Poland and other neighbouring countries, is being supplied by Austria-based Starlinger & Co. GmbH and is expected to become operational during early-May this year.
The investment is expected to help the company produce high-quality regrind material in the most sustainable manner.
In addition to introducing a new extrusion line for bottle-to-bottle recycling system, ALPLA announced that it has completely switched to renewable energy.
