SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Corporation announced appointment of Matt Reed as Alcoa’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. The appointment is with effect from January 1, 2024. Currently, Reed serves as the Vice President of Operations for Australia and as President, Alcoa of Australia.
According to company press release, Reed will be based in Western Australia and will lead the company’s global operations including bauxite mines, alumina refineries, and aluminum smelters. He will focus on ensuring operational excellence with special emphasis on environmental management, productivity, cost management, and long-term strategic planning.

Reed is a professional with over 25 years of experience in the resource sector. Prior to joining Alcoa in June this year, he has served as the Operations Executive (Chief Operating Officer) of OZ Minerals and as the Executive Managing Director (Chief Operating Officer) of SIMEC Mining.
Commenting on the new appointment, William F. Oplinger, President and CEO, Alcoa said that Matt is a very strong leader and that his new role will help the company drive a high-performance culture across its assets. He is is guided by integrity and a passion for building capable and motivated teams, Oplinger added.
