SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): For the week ending January 11, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production increased by about 1.80%, according to the most recent weekly domestic production figures published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This week is compared to the same week last year.
The United States produced 1.659 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week. The domestic mill capabilities were utilized at a rate of 74.5%. It's crucial to keep in mind that production reached 1.629 million NT during the same week last year, but with a slightly lower capacity utilization rate of 73.3%.
Additionally, crude steel production increased by a meager 1.5% from the previous week. During the week ending January 4, 2025, 1.635 million NT were produced, with a capability utilization rate of 73.6%.
The Southern region produced the most, with 750,000 net tons. The Great Lakes region produced 483,000 net tons during the week. The productions (in thousand net tons) for the other regions are North East-128, Midwest-240, and Western-58.
With a capability utilization rate of 74.1%, the adjusted year-to-date output as of January 11, 2025, was 2.593 million net tons. Compared to the same period in 2023, when production was 2.560 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 73.3%, this indicates a 1.3% rise.
