AISI: Western Region Propelled Jump in U.S. Raw Steel Output

The United States produced 1.697 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week.

AISI: Western Region Propelled Jump in U.S. Raw Steel Output

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The most recent weekly domestic production data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) shows that during the week ending March 29, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production rose by about 0.10%. This was based on a comparison between this week and the same week last year.

Over the course of the week, the United States produced 1.697 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel. The utilization rate of the domestic mill capacity was 76.2%. It's important to remember that last year, during the same week, production reached 1.696 million NT, with a somewhat higher capacity utilization rate of 76.4%.

Crude steel production produced 1.654 million NT in the week ending March 22, 2025, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3%, which was just 2.6% more than the week before.

With 759,000 net tons, the Southern region produced the most. During the week, 508,000 net tons were produced in the Great Lakes region. North East-126, Midwest-231, and Western-73 are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons).


As of March 29, 2025, the adjusted year-to-date output was 20.868 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 74.5%. This represents a 1.3% decrease from the same period in 2024, when production was 21.143 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.8%.
