SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In the week ending March 22, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production fell by about 2.50%, according to the most current weekly domestic production numbers released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This was based on a comparison between this week and the same week last year.
Over the course of the week, the United States produced 1.654 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel. The domestic mill was operating at 74.3% capacity. It is important to remember that last year, during the same week, output reached 1.696 million NT, with a slightly higher capacity utilization rate of 76.4%.

Compared to the previous week, which concluded on March 15, 2025, when crude steel output reached 1.667 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 74.9%, the production for the week ending March 22, 2025, decreased by 0.8%.
With 745,000 net tons, the Southern region produced the most. During the week, 488,000 net tons were produced in the Great Lakes region. North East-123, Midwest-224, and Western-74 are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons).
With a capability utilization rate of 74.4%, the adjusted year-to-date output as of March 22, 2025, was 19.171 million net tons. Compared to the same period in 2024, when production was 19.447 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 75.8%, this indicates a 1.4% reduction.
