SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today welcomed the U.S. decision to implement tariff-rate quota (TRQ) on steel imports to the country from the EU region.
In his response to the presidential proclamation, Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO, AISI, in a statement, noted that the Institute welcomes the president’s action in accordance with the agreement reached between both the parties in last October.

Dempsey welcomed the emphasis in the proclamation which says that only steel melted and poured in the EU will benefit from this alternative arrangement. Furthermore, he pointed out that proper implementation and enforcement of the TRQ is crucial in preventing another steel import surge, which in turn will deliver significant damages to the country’s domestic steel industry.
AISI welcomed the president’s order to initiate a regulatory review of the Section 232 exclusions process and promised all support to the U.S. administration in seeking improvements in the exclusions process. In addition, the Association called upon other nations to join hands in providing solutions to global climate crisis and eliminating global excess capacity in steel.
