SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has announced appointment of Michael Davenport as the new executive director of the Auto/Steel Partnership (A/SP). He succeeds John Catterall, who was recently appointed as the vice president of the automotive program for AISI.
Davenport has extensive experience in Body-In-White (BIW), closures, sealing, exteriors and vehicle assembly. He has been working as the director of application engineering at U.S. Steel Corporation, being in charge for developing, directing and leading the product applications department teams. Prior to that, he has also worked as the BIW manager with design responsibility for the upperbody department at FCA.

Commenting on the appointment, Catterall noted that Davenport’s background with several collaborative organizations and his extensive experience makes him an ideal candidate to lead the organization forward. The Auto/Steel Partnership will continue to advance a strong portfolio of collaborative technical projects under his leadership, Catterall hoped.
Meantime, Davenport assured that he will continue A/SP’s efforts to to bring third-generation advanced high-strength steel into production vehicles to support OEM initiatives.
Davenport holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technology University and a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Oakland University.
