SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released the Q2 2024 Containerboard Quarterly report.
According to the report, the total containerboard production in Q2 recorded 7% increase upon comparison with the corresponding year ago quarter.
The operating rates for all major grades except Semichemical Medium increased when compared with Q1 2024. The production hit the highest level since Q2 2022. The production of unbleached kraftliner for export reported 44% surge year-on-year. The total export production in H1 too stood higher by 40%.

The only grade with flat operating rate, compared with the initial half of 2023, was Recycled Medium, AF&PA noted.
The total boxboard production witnessed marginal decline by 1% from Q2 last year. The boxboard operating rate stood at 88.5%, higher by 2.5 points from the corresponding quarter a year before.
The domestic production of solid bleached folding increased by 13%, compared to Q2 2023. The solid bleached boxboard unmade orders climbed higher by 29% from the levels at the end of the previous quarter, but was higher by 35% from end-Q2 2023. The uncoated recycled boxboard production surged higher by 3% year-on-year. The production during the first six months of 2024 too was up marginally by 2% over the previous year.
