AF&PA Member Highlighted Best Safety Practices at Mills

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Essity, a member of the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) demonstrated ways to ensure safe environment at paper mills. The AF&PA members are focused on keeping their employees safe, it noted.

According to Pete Petersen, Risk, Environmental, Safety, and Health (RESH) Manager for Essity’s Central Region, there exists plenty of opportunities to showcase best safety practices throughout its mills. The Essity RESH team provide all possible support for staff learnings in order to ensure an injury-free work environment at mills, he noted.

The Essity sites follow an observation program by the name “Because I Care (BIC)”. The program delivers structured observations, based on which a team member is given a positive or corrective feedback. Peterson noted that the program is regarded as a cultural journey towards a safe and healthy workplace.

The Essity’s efforts are not confined to mills. It participates in local community meetings to boost safety for roadways or emergency response preparation. The company had played a leadership role in contributing toys and other materials to individuals in Western Kentucky who were hit by a devastating tornado.

The company called for increased sharing of safety goals and best safety practices, which in turn could create a much safer industry.
