SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Washington-based American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) announced its top advocacy priorities to drive its operations during the current year.
According to AF&PA news release, it plans to advocate for science-based policies that acknowledge the carbon neutrality of biomass. The Association aims to ensure continued success for paper recycling at state and federal levels through educating consumers on the right ways to recycle. In addition, it will focus on streamlining the permit process so as to reduce the cost and uncertainty of regulations. Finally, AF&PA aims to enhance transportation infrastructure and revamp aging surface transportation policies.
Heidi Brock, President and CEO, AF&PA noted that the policy changes pertaining to biomass, paper recycling, regulatory reform and transportation infrastructure are likely to strengthen the industry. The association will continue to support policies to keep paper and paper-based packaging the most-recycled materials by weight in U.S. municipal waste streams, she added.
AF&PA called upon elected officials to recognize paper as part of the circular solution.
Further, the Association stated it will continue to a part of all key advocacy discussions related to international policies.
