6063 Aluminum Channel, aka Architectural Aluminum Channel is an extruded aluminum product with sharp, right angle inside and outside corners making this shape ideal for many trim applications. The 6063 aluminum U-channel with equal leg length and squared corners has a T52 temper, has an unpolished (mill) surface, meets SAE Aerospace Material Specifications AMS-QQ-A-200 and American Society for Testing and Materials International ASTM B221 specifications, and has a standard tolerance. The heat-treatable 6063 aluminum alloy, also known as architectural aluminum, is a medium-strength material with excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability. The aluminum has a T52 temper, meaning it has been heat treated for increased strength.
6063 is often called architectural aluminum for two reasons - first, it has a surface finish that is far smoother than the other commercially available alloys, and second, its strength is significantly less (roughly half the strength of 6061), making it suited for applications where strength is not the foremost consideration.6063 is rated as "Good" for forming and cold working operations, "Excellent" for anodizing, and "Fair" for machining.
Applications
6063 Aluminum Channel is also widely used for all types of fabrication projects where lightweight and corrosion resistance is a primary concern. 6063 aluminum, also known as architectural aluminum, provides excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability.
