360 Brass

360 Brass

Characteristics

C360000 (H02) Free machining brass, produced from a combination of copper and zinc, has the highest machinability of all copper alloys, and is the standard against which all the others are compared to. 360 Brass, known for its strength and resistance to corrosion with properties closely resembling that of steel, is one of the most popular copper alloys used today. 360 Brass can be precision machined easily. Although ductile in its softened state, 360 Brass is a strong material to work with and maintains its strength even under some of the most demanding conditions. 360 Brass forms a thin protective "patina", which, unlike steel and iron, will not rust when exposed to the atmosphere. As a high-density material, 360 Brass is ideal for heavy industrial parts. 360 Brass is also valued for its high polished finish. 360 Brass is available in rounds, flats, squares, hexagons, tube.

360 Brass Flat, Square, Round were ideally suited for applications where strength, good corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and non-sparking characteristics are important. Used widely for decorative purposes because of its smooth gold-like appearance, 360 Brass Flat is easy to polish to a high luster and is easily machined. The 360 brass bar with H02 temper is unpolished, meets American Society for Testing and Materials International ASTM B16 specifications, and has a standard tolerance. The 360 brass alloy, also known as free-machining brass, provides corrosion resistance and better machinability than 353 brass due to a higher lead content. The material has an H02 temper, meaning it has been cold worked to a 1/2 hard temper.

Copper, brass, and bronze are known as red metals because they contain copper, which has a reddish color. Copper, a term that applies to alloys containing at least 99.3% copper, offers very high thermal and electrical conductivity and provides corrosion resistance, formability, and machinability. Brass is an alloy of copper and varying levels of zinc, sometimes with additional elements. It provides greater strength and better machinability than copper or bronze. Bronze is commonly an alloy of copper and tin, but sometimes it is copper alloyed with other elements such as aluminum, phosphorus, manganese, or silicon. Tin gives bronze more corrosion resistance than brass and greater strength than copper. Copper and its alloys have temper designations, meaning the material has undergone a process to achieve certain properties of strength and hardness.

  • ASTM: ASTM B16 (Standard Specification for Free-Cutting Brass Rod, Bar and Shapes for Use in Screw Machines)

Applications

360 Brass has a wide range of applications, such as screw machine parts, couplings, bushings, connectors, fittings, circuit board relays, electronic components, switches, nuts, bolts, valve stems and valve components, pump shafts, brackets, frames, fixtures, ornamental works, and used extensively in the musical instrument, electrical equipment, plumbing, central heating, seawater lines and desalination fields. Commonly used in corrosive environments. Also for ornamental projects.360 Brass is the most common grade of the brass products. It has a great appearance, offers excellent machinabilty, and is corrosion resistant.
