This position supervises crews in the solid waste services operations for the City. Overseeing the work of others is an essential function of the job. This is accomplished by planning, assigning, and supervising the mechanical and manual collection of solid waste materials. It also includes knowledge of maintaining maintenance of assigned equipment, evaluating and recommending personnel actions and changes in operating procedures, and recommending equipment acquisition. The successful candidate for this position must be completely proficient in basic computer usage such as internet and email. This position also uses Microsoft applications (such as Word, Outlook, and Excel,) Other duties include providing staff assistance to the Solid Waste Superintendent, preparing reports, maintaining records, and assisting with the preparation and presentation of reports. Work is performed independently, under general supervision and is reviewed through inspections and reports of results obtained. Candidate must be able to identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures for solid waste services.

Experience-Minimum five years of solid waste operational experience, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Minimum three years supervisory experience. Experience in operational methods that focus on efficiency, including allocation of solid waste collections personnel and equipment and equipment maintenance schedules. Must have knowledge of basic Microsoft Office and other computer applications required. Must be available for emergency callback and/or have the ability to work a rotational schedule. Must have a CDL "B" license. Must be able to obtain SWANA certification within one year of hire date.
