The Opportunity
We are looking for a Manager - Mine Engineering to lead the design of the underground mine. The role is responsible for all underground design aspects ranging from geotechnical, mine layout, shafts, mine infrastructure, ventilation, development, production and materials handling systems.
As part of Rio Tinto’s Copper product group; Copper Projects manages the planning, development and technological aspects of major global copper projects. The group collaborates with the Rio Tinto Technology and Innovation group to focus on applications of innovative technologies including block caving, automation, flash converter smelting and sulphide leaching. With exploration indicating one of the largest copper resources ever found in North America, and possibly worldwide; the Resolution Project stands to be a premier copper mine. Located three miles east of Superior, Arizona, the copper ore will be mined using panel caving - a subset of block caving.
What the role entails
This role is a great opportunity to be part of the Resolution Copper Project located near Superior in Arizona, and is one of the world’s largest known undeveloped copper deposits. Located between 4500ft and 7000ft below the surface and with resources in excess of 1.7 Billion tonnes, the deposit is planned to be mined using the panel caving method. Working a 5 days on /2 off roster and reporting to the General Manager Studies, you will be:
