The Opportunity

We are looking for a Structural Civil Engineer with mining background to work in the Sustaining Engineering group.

With operations in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador as well as port facilities in Sept-Îles Quebec; The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a leading producer of iron ore. Operating over 400 kilometres of railroad that link mine to port, the IOC export pellet and concentrate to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.

What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to implement technical standards, tools and systems. Role will be responsible to evaluate technical project options to determine efficiency and cost effectiveness. Working a 5 days on, 2 off roster and reporting to the Superintendent - Technical Support, you will be:

  • Managing projects from initiation to completion and deliver results to meet the KPIs as agreed with the Project Sponsor
  • Assessing feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering solutions, equipment, or processes
  • Improving and upgrades existing assets and applies complex problem solving techniques
  • Contributing to successful project scoping and development by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials
  • Coordinating planning, organization, and implementation of engineering projects within constraints of specific objectives, budget, resources and target dates
  • Coordinating project activities with other operating, engineering units and stakeholders to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion
