The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Mining Engineer – Systems to develop and maintain systems that support the mine planning team, and cross over as needed to support other planning functions.

Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. What the role entails

This role is a great opportunity to maximize the effectiveness of the mine planning team through the use of innovative software and other processes Working and reporting to the Superintendent - Mine Planning, you will be:

• Supporting the mine planning team by developing models and analytical tools that can be used by others in the team as well as the business unit as a whole
• Developing new systems that support the goals of the mine planning team and maintain current systems and regularly evaluate systems for relevance
• Liaising between mine technical team and other groups to integrate new tools and processes
• Analysing mine planning data to develop models and improve planning capability and Maintaining software licenses used by the mine technical team
• Planning tools or planning processes may start to limit capability or become obsolete and need to be updated or new tools or processes developed and implemented
• Actively participating in creation of mid-range planning schedules during periods of the year
