The Opportunity

We are looking for a Project Engineer to manage a single large-sized or a group of moderately sized projects and to provide or coordinate engineering, contractual resources and technical support to Wilmington Operations. The role is based in Wilmington, California.

This role is a great opportunity to learn, develop your career and worked on exciting and challenging projects.  Working and reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be:

• Manage multiple projects in coordination with outside engineering groups, contractors or service providers with the support of Boron Engineering.
• Ensure projects are managed with the high attention to safety and in accordance with Rio Tinto Health, Safety and Environmental standards
• Responsibilities include working with project sponsors and outside contractors to develop detailed scopes of work to include costs, preparing bid documents, establishing job execution plans, and communicating project schedules, milestones, and progress to all relevant stakeholders.
• Coordinate CEA preparation with Finance and sponsor
• Prepare and maintain cost and schedule controls including all necessary reports
• Select and oversee engineering and field contractors to complete projects with the support of Boron Engineering
• Conduct annual contractor training and complete periodic contractor performance assessments
• Support business optimization and cost reduction initiatives and projects
• Project closure including a final report and report card of contractor performance
• Actively participate in HSEQ systems such as Critical Risk Management Verifications, Interactions, near hit reporting, incident reporting and analysis, inspections, risk assessments, management review, element championing, etc.
• Complete MOC, SHEAP, risk assessments, etc. in support of projects and other changes
