Why This Job

To be a leader you’ve got to stay ahead of the curve. That’s why CMC has always been — and will continue to be — an early adopter of smart, new manufacturing techniques and technology. Our automated Steel Micro Mill in Durant, OK melted and rolled our first heat in December of 2017. We connect the two main steps in rebar production - melting recyced scrap into molten steel and forming that steel into a finished product in a single uninterrupted strand. We also use energy more efficiently than the mini mill and our technology allows us to cast steel faster and to run continuously.

Our Processes

Mini Mill Technology

All of our mills use the state-of-the-art, scrap based, Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking production process. The minimill EAF steelmaking technology is the cleanest and most energy efficient steelmaking process available today. For every ton of steel produced, we save the use of:

  • 2,500 pounds of iron ore
  • 1,400 pounds of coal
  • 120 pounds of limestone

By using recycled scrap as our raw material rather than virgin natural resources, we are reducing the need for mining of our natural resources and reducing CO2 emissions by 58%.
