The Opportunity

We are looking for a Mining Engineer to be responsible for duties associated with medium, long-range, and strategic planning.

With operations in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador as well as port facilities in Sept-Îles Quebec; The Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) is a leading producer of iron ore. Operating over 400 kilometres of railroad that link mine to port, the IOC export pellet and concentrate to customers in North America, Europe and Asia.

What the role entails

This role focusses on the creation and communication of mine plans on a six to 18-month planning horizon with opportunity to grow into the 5-year and life-of-mine planning horizons. Work will occur on a 5 days on, 2 off roster, though the schedule can be flexible. This role reports to the Senior Planner LT Strategic Mining. It includes: 

  • Generating schedules for budgetary plans and quarterly reforecasts based on long-range plans, ore demand, equipment capacities, etc.
  • Detailing and documenting pit and dump designs
  • Scoping development projects for creation of tender packages
  • Planning the progression of benches/lifts according infrastructure needs and budget sequence
  • Coordination with stakeholders, including operations, to establish performance metrics, scheduling constraints, and design criteria
  • Performing periodic reconciliation of scheduling parameters and haul network
  • Support the annual reserve and resource reporting by performing pit optimizations
  • Participate in updates to the annual mining fleet strategy
