History

The used clothing business at the Groß Enzersdorf location was founded by the Rosendorfsky family in the 1950s. The business areas originally consisted of the sorting of old clothes, the manufacture of cleaning rags and an industrial laundry. This had a capacity of 5000kg per day.

In 1986 the company was taken over by ÖPULA Rohstoffrecycling. The managing directors of the new company were initially Erich Rosendorfsky, Rudolf Friedl and Kurt Willheim, one third each. ÖPULA represents Ö Austrian Pu tz la ppen.

Under the new management, the used clothing collection was expanded throughout Austria through street collections. This is still done today in cooperation with the charitable organizations Caritas (until 2014), Kolping and Red Cross. Due to the decline in volunteers, street collection was switched to the container collection system from 2000 onwards.

ÖPULA collects used clothes mainly in Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria. Charitable collections are bought from other federal states. With the approx. 4,000 containers set up, around 10,000 tons of used clothing are collected every year.

The current business fields of the company ÖPULA today are the collection and recycling of old clothes under the management of GF Kurt Willheim as well as the trade in cleaning rags and hygiene articles for industry and commerce under the management of GF Rudolf Friedl. The laundry operation was closed in 1990. From this point onwards, sorting and packaging were no longer carried out on site, but were outsourced to subcontractors. Company founder Erich Rosendorfsky left the company in 1994.
