Why Have A Green Roof?
Apart from their attractive appearance, green roofs offer numerous clear ecological and economic benefits, provided, of course, that the correct system build-up is employed to ensure long-term success. Green roofs are worth it, from installations on small garage roofs, right up to installations on large industrial surfaces.
ZinCo System Superstructures for Extensive and Intensive Landscaped Roofs
A sophisticated system including different components compensates the functions of nature that is missing on the roof and guarantees a durable plant covering on rooftops under difficult growing conditions:
1. Root Barrier
Protects the waterproofing of the roof from penetration by plant roots.
2. Moisture Retention / Protection Mat
Protects the root barrier from mechanical damage, as well as retaining water and nutrients.
3. Drainage Layer
Retains rainwater in troughs on the upperside, while the surplus water is safely drained away. Necessary ventilation to the root area is also guaranteed.
4. Filter Sheet
Prevents fine particles from being washed out of the growing medium, thereby ensuring the efficiency of the drainage layer.
5. Growing Layer
A light weight engineered growing medium, based on a mixture of minerals and organic components, is the support layer of the plant material. It suits the needs of the green roof vegetation and provides for a stable growing environment. Depth and compositions depends on the plant material to use.
6. Plant Level
Drought-resistant and robust plants like sedum-species up to demanding shrubs, bushes and even trees
