ZeroPoint Clean Tech, Inc. deploys biomass solutions to make renewable energy and sequester carbon. ZeroPoint's modular, multi-feedstock gasification technology is built to international codes and is priced to create highly attractive economics. The ZeroPoint solution is built with industry leading OEM components by the world's highest quality manufacturers. Skid mounted equipment is packaged into turnkey plants and delivered with leading engineering, procurement and construction firms.
The company is currently deploying its Renewable CHP Solution into combined heat and power projects in Northern Ireland and Germany. ZeroPoint has established joint venture relationships in Northern Europe, The U.K., South America, and Southeast Asia. We are now actively developing distributed biomass energy projects in North America as well.
ZeroPoint renewable energy technologies can deliver carbon-neutral synthesis gas, electricity, and heat to communities around the world.
Biomass Gasification
When biomass is heated in the absence of oxygen it decomposes into a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide known as synthesis gas or "syngas". This clean burning syngas is a valuable energy product that can be used in a wide variety of applications. ZeroPoint systems do not incinerate and emit no harmful emissions. The emissions produced by syngas combustion are the same or better than those for natural gas combustion.
Combustion is a function of the mixture of oxygen with a hydrocarbon fuel. Gaseous fuels mix with oxygen more easily than liquid fuels, which in turn mix more easily than solid fuels. Syngas therefore burns more efficiently and cleanly than the solid biomass from which it is made. Like natural gas, syngas can also be burned in boilers, furnaces and generators to make electricity and heat.
Biochar
ZeroPoint Biomass Gasification Systems produce biochar as a by-product. Biochar is fixed carbon in the form of highly porous charcoal and is produced through thermo-chemical processes such as biomass gasification. Biochar is composed of carbon that plants extracted from the atmosphere through photosynthesis to form plant matter. When that plant matter is converted into charcoal, the carbon is permanently fixed in the charcoal. Each ton of biochar produced represents approximately 3.5 tons of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere. Biochar has also been shown to increase the fertility of soil resulting in decreased needs for fertilizers and irrigation.
The use of biochar as a soil amendment has important positive implications for agricultural productivity as higher soil carbon contents correlate with increased soil fertility. An enriched dark soil found in the lowland sections of the Amazon Basin has been determined to contain high concentrations of charcoal and greater plant nutrients than the surrounding soils. Because of its porous structure and organic compound filtering characteristics, it is also believed that soil amended with biochar may have the ability to limit the negative impacts of fertilizer and manure runoff on water tables and reduce volumetric requirements for fertilizers (particularly gas or petroleum derived fertilizers).
Synthesis Gas Reforming
Syngas can be utilized to synthesize liquid hydrocarbons including; distillate fuels (such as diesel fuel and kerosene), alcohols (such as methanol and ethanol) and fertilizers (such as ammonia). Production of highly valuable fuels and alcohols from renewable resources on a distributed scale will create a paradigm shift in current energy markets. Empowering communities to produce their own local heat, baseload electricity and liquid fuels will drive the biomass market to the forefront of the renewable energy sector.
ZeroPoint's gasification technology has been tested on a wide array of biomass fuels and performs particularly well with woody fuels, palm residues and bagasses. The technology is appropriately scaled for the highly local reality of global biomass markets. ZeroPoint has a number of patents and patents pending for its gasification technology and the manner in which that technology can be combined with other relevant energy production and water purification systems.

Biochar can also be used as a filtering media to replace activated charcoal. After use as a filtering media, biochar can be land filled to permanently sequester its carbon. Those not seeking to sequester carbon can utilize biochar as a fuel containing approximately 13,300 Btu/lb.
