Zero Waste Montenegro was founded in March 2015 by Alexandra Aubertin, environmental consultant (Ramsdem) and activist and Azra Vukovic, former project coordinator at the well-established Montenegrin environmental NGO Green Home, and former director of the National Parks of Montenegro. Together they decided to create a national network willing to support Montenegro government to achieve the goals of the current National Waste Management Plan 2014-2020 related to Zero Waste strategy. Since its creation several motivated volunteers have joined the team and give their time for a cause they strongly believe in.
It is the vision of Zero Waste Montenegro (ZWMNE) to facilitate a culture change within Montenegro that will result in a marked improvement in waste reduction, reusing and recycling. Our activities range from awareness raising among citizens, municipalities, local NGO’s and government bodies regarding the concepts of Zero Waste and the Circular Economy to advising municipal public utilities companies on the implementation of their solid waste management plan, via providing guidance how to optimize operational processes in recycling units.
Our initial activities are focusing on communication and awareness raising which will be followed up by pilot projects, the results and success of which can be used to create momentum and foster popular support to tackle larger projects within Montenegro.
