THE ZERO WASTE LAB IS A NEARBY PLACE FOR THE COLLECTION AND UPCYCLING OF SEPARATED WASTE

The Zero Waste Lab makes it more fun and valuable to separate household waste. How? As a local resident, you can hand in your separated waste at the Zero Waste Lab in exchange for value coins. You can redeem these coins at your local entrepreneurs, for example for a free cup of coffee, a discount on your fresh vegetables, clothing or your new reading glasses. The waste returned is reused, recycled and upcycled.

Raw materials are becoming increasingly scarce and raw material prices vary. At the same time, we produce a lot of waste, which also contains these valuable raw materials. Waste is therefore a potential source of raw materials that can ensure that materials remain infinitely available for (high-quality) reuse. With a zero-waste strategy, useful residues can be reused.

Circular economy

The Healthy City wants to contribute to the circular economy with the Zero Waste Lab project; a society where cycles are closed and where raw materials are recycled as high as possible. Our aim is to extract three times more raw materials from our waste by 2020 (than in 2015). The development towards a circular city requires innovation and innovative collaborative projects, which should ultimately result in profitable projects, both financially and socially. In our project we primarily focus on household waste flows.

Separating waste

In Amsterdam only 27% of all waste is separated, while in the rest of the Netherlands this is an average of 51%. Amsterdam's objective is to separate 65% of our household waste by 2020. With the Zero Waste Lab, The Healthy City wants to make it more fun and easier for Amsterdammers to separate their household waste.
