Mobile Soil Washing Plant

RKGV contains all kinds of toxic substances that must under no circumstances be returned to the environment. Such as oil residues and heavy metals. For the most part, however, RKGV consists of sand, gravel and rock. These materials can be easily reused. Zandrecycling Nederland already developed a cleaning installation in the 1980s, with which the toxic fractions can be separated from the reusable components in the fastest and best possible way. This Mobile Soil Washing Plant (MSWP) cleans RKGV industrially and is suitable for use in, for example, road and hydraulic engineering.

The history of Zandrecycling Nederland

In the late 1980s, dumping bans were announced for many substances in the Netherlands. The central government wanted to use this to stimulate companies and local authorities to work on recycling and responsible waste processing. In 1988, vandervalk + degroot (sewer cleaning), the AVR (waste processing) and the then Dolman BV (sand extraction) started a joint venture, specializing in the extraction of reusable sand and other (construction) materials from sewage sludge, sea sludge, ground sludge and sweeping sand. Through continuous investment, the initially simple techniques of Zandrecycling Nederland quickly became more advanced. In addition, the number of processing locations also grew thanks to cooperation with Boskalis, among others. With so much strength, Zandrecycling Nederland could not help but develop into the RKGV processor in the Netherlands.

Two important 'products'

The current Zandrecycling Nederland is a partnership of Boskalis Environmental and vandervalk + degroot. In addition, the 'product' has also gradually changed. In the early years, this was mainly the provision of recycled sand and (building) materials obtained from RKGV. Later the emphasis was more on the environmentally and socially responsible cleaning and processing of RKGV. After all, the techniques of Zandrecycling Nederland turned out to be far ahead of the increasingly strict laws and regulations in the field of contaminated waste. As a result, Zandrecycling Nederland became an interesting partner for municipalities and companies that wanted to dispose of their RKGV in a responsible manner.Today both matters are equally important. On the one hand, taking RKG sludge and sweeping sand, to process these materials transparently and in accordance with the smallest sections of the Environmental Act. And on the other hand, the extraction of (building) materials in the context of the Circular Economy, which is currently high on the global agenda.
