Installation with a landfill covers an area of ​​about 50 ha and is located in the eastern part of the city of Bielsko-Biała in the Lipnik district, in an exhausted quarry, where waste has been deposited since the 1960s.

From 1991, waste management (i.e. collection and disposal) in the city of Bielsko-Biała was handled by the Municipal Cleaning Plant as a budgetary facility of the Bielsko-Biała Commune.

In 2001, the authorities of the city of Bielsko-Biała signed an agreement with the company ASMABEL belonging to the company SITA Polska and the company SITA Zakład Oczyszczania Miasta SA was established, which took care of the collection of municipal waste from the area of ​​the city of Bielsko-Biała and the municipalities of the Bielsko poviat.

July 16 in 1999. The City Council of Bielsko-Biała, by Resolution No. XVI / 182/99, expressed the will to establish a joint-stock company under the name "Zakład Gospodarki Odpadami", the object of which will be primarily the construction, maintenance and operation of a waste landfill and facilities for the use and disposal of waste.

On January 10, 2000, the Company was registered with the District Court in Bielsko-Biała, and on February 1, 2000, the Company commenced the implementation of the economic tasks for which it was established.

The company was equipped by the shareholder mainly with a waste landfill (contributed in kind), operated since 1960. Its service life was planned for the period until 2002/2003. For this reason, the Company is faced with two tasks: the construction of a new landfill sector with installations for minimizing the amount of waste, and the rehabilitation of the old landfill.

In June 2003, the Company commissioned a new sector I of the landfill. Also in this period, it was decided that the new investment not only can, but should serve both the inhabitants of the Bielsko-Biała Commune and the inhabitants of the Bielsko Poviat commune.

The Management Board of Zakład Gospodarki Odpadami SA in Bielsko-Biała has taken steps to obtain funds from the European Union for the implementation of the task called "Construction of a comprehensive waste management system for the city of Bielsko-Biała and the municipalities of the Bielsko poviat"

After obtaining funds from the European Union - the Cohesion Fund - the implementation of investments began and the planned investments were dynamically implemented in the hitherto undeveloped area. The construction of the plant lasted from 2008 to 2012 and currently Zakład Gospodarki Odpadami SA in Bielsko Biała is one of the most modern plants for mechanical and biological waste treatment in Poland, having the status of RIPOK, the so-called regional municipal waste processing installation. It has a high processing capacity of sorting technological lines at the level of 70,000 Mg / year, composting lines at the level of 28,000 Mg / year, and meets the requirements of the best available technologies (BAT). Ensures mechanical and biological processing of mixed municipal and packaging waste and the separation of recyclable materials from them, enables the processing of selectively collected green and other biodegradable waste. As part of this investment, a landfill with a capacity of 614,000 m3 was also built, which allows for the collection of waste for a period of at least 15 years.
Thanks to the use of new technologies, it is possible to recover many types of material fractions, which allows the reduction of post-process waste deposited in the landfill to the level of approx. 30% of the entire waste stream accepted into the plant.

A very important aspect is also the fact that new jobs have been created for the inhabitants of Bielsko-Biała and its vicinity, providing secure and stable employment. The Management Board of Zakład Gospodarki Odpadami SA in Bielsko-Biała is trying to make the plant perceived by the inhabitants as a modern enterprise dealing with waste management in an orderly manner in its region.
