Promoting ‘on-site’ composting and creating living, vibrant communities in and above the soil, Hart’s Worm Farm is a community composting operation that is overseen by weCompost2; we are very unique in that we:

• Are located in an area that allows us to collect and glean food from the nearby farmers market.
• Collect food scraps from other farmer’s markets, food pantries, coffee shops, breweries, juice restaurants and farmers.
• Have a drop off location for resident’s food scraps.
• Do not charge for food collection services.
• Are located inside the city’s Farm & Food Lab, which showcases various methods of growing food. All food grown being donated to those experiencing food insecurity.
• Close the loop; composting the food and plant waste produced at the Farm & Food Lab and return it in the form of worm castings and compost which in turn is used to grow more food.
• Demonstrate 8 methods of composting with plans to increase that number to at least 14.
• Are a nonprofit that is almost entirely self-sufficient and run by volunteers.
• Most funds are generated by the sale of soil amendments, soils and outreach educational events.
• Host events, demonstrations, lectures, tours and classes, many free to the public or offered on a as needed based sliding fee scale.
• Host volunteer opportunities for students and adults, some coming from surrounding counties (Riverside and LA).
• Have created a universal composting symbol.
• Have a goal of creating thousands of micro household composting hubs – saving residential transporting and collection fees, reducing street congestion, reducing gas and diesel consumption and pollution, improving air quality, improving local soil quality and encouraging home gardening / food resiliency.
• Have plans to create a hands-on traveling exhibit for children’s museums focusing on various composting methods; showing how composting relates to soil, plant and human health.
• Focus on producing the highest quality compost and vermicompost, AND
• Cultivate a safe, inviting place for individuals to gather, work, share ideas, learn and grow.
