In the Ardennes department, the treatment of household waste is provided by VALODEA. It is a Public Establishment of Intercommunal Cooperation, a real tool at the service of Ardennes communities as part of the implementation of a coherent global policy in terms of household waste management.
The SMTDA (Syndicat Mixte de Processing des Déchets Ardennais) renamed VALODEA in 2007, was created in 1975 with the support of the General Council of the Ardennes and the municipality of Eteignières, with the aim of eliminating the 400 existing illegal dumps in the Ardennes and supervise the creation of the first controlled landfill.
VALODEA now groups together 100% of the municipalities in the department, which gives it an indisputable legitimacy for actions in the field of waste management by providing Ardennes communities with an optimal scope for reflection and action.
It manages, in the name and on behalf of the member municipalities, the competence for the treatment of household and similar waste. It is therefore responsible for the elimination of waste produced by households, whether by landfilling, recycling or composting.
